The Clique

Right now I'm in the middle of a series called the clique. I'm only on the first book because I am waiting for the second one at the library. So far the books are pretty good. I would suggest this series to maybe, mostly teenagers and maybe around 10 year olds. There a somewhat easy read. If you have any book suggestions I would love to here them. I love a great book!

Changing The Blog

I've decided that I am going to change the blog. I'm still going to have a blog but it's going to be different. It's going to be about the books I read, what I think about them, and other book stuff... I've decided to do this because my mom didn't like the idea of me having a blog just about my life. I am still going to blog about important and interesting things in my life, but I hope you enjoy my new blog.

After I Read

As I think back to this story I realize that this could be a true story. I really like the chraracters. I would have to say my favorite character is Naomi. She really evolves over this story. Like a caterpillar changing into a beautiful buterfly. Like every book I read I wish it wouldn't end. I would recromend this book to anybody. Especialy kids from the ages of 9-13. This book has the lesson of being true to yourself and never doubting yourself. Well, this is the end of my Becoming Naomi Leon blog, but don't worry I'm going to continue this blog on just my daily life! Make sure you check it out. Thanks to all of my family and freinds that commented. I love you!

227- 246

I did it! I finished the book! Yay! This book definately had the ending I wanted it to. This book, for sure, made my top ten list. It was wonderful! Here's what happened in the last pages. First of all there was the court. This part was soo nerve wracking for me! The judge asked about a million questions but the one that stood out was the one she asked Naomi, " Do you want to stay with your mom?" This question was really hard for Naomi. She knew she didn't but she has always had trouble with speaking up. She did though! She told the judge everything that happened an in the end it all turned out well! Guess what happened? The judge said Naomi and Owen could stay with Gram! YAY! YAY! YAY! I'm really happy that Naomi got her happy ending. She didn't end up with her parents but she stayed the same. Except for she met her mom, and her dad, went to Mexico, and discovered herself. I guess that explains the title. Becoming Naomi Leon! What a wonderful book!

Pages 195-226

You will never guess what happened! Well, you might but............... She found her dad! Yay! I knew she would! Well, there's more than just that so I will tell you the whole thing. When Naomi was at the festival she kept a sharp eye out for her dad. Even though she had no clue what he looked like. Bernardo ended up getting 2nd place with his carving, and that is when it happened. There was her dad! Standing right there. But when he saw Gram, Naomi, And Owen standing there he ran away. Naomi chased after him but she couldn,t keep up. Her and I were soo upset!! It gets better though. When they were right at there front gate there he was, again. This time he didn,t run away though. He ran to the kids and hugged them. Aww! How sweet! Anyways, they had a wonderful reunion. Remember how I told you this would be the perfect happy almost ending? Well, that isn't entirely true. At the end of these pages Naomi, Gram, and Owen had to leave. They were supposed to go to court. Oh NO! I really want Naomi to stay in Mexico forever, and be with her dad. I hope she does!!!

P.S. I just wanted to tell you something. There are really cool chapter titles in this book. Here are a few. A Memory of Elephants, A Drey of Squirrels, and A Leap of Leopards. Cool, huh?

Monday, May 24, 2010

Pages 167- 194

These chapters are much more eventfull that the last two. I really like this book. In these chapters Gram and Flora found out about Naomi's calls when someone she called called back and said she was Santiago's aunt. This was really exciting news! When Naomi went to Santiago's aunts house she learned that she looked exactly alike her dad. The aunt said that Santiago usually came for his favorite celebration Las Posadas, and then stayed for the Radish carving festival. She told Gram that she would call when he arrived. Naomi waited and waited but no call came and she went to Las Posadas without her dad. Naomi was upset but she knew that her dad would still come for the carving festival. One night Naomi started decorating a branch with her carvings and when Bernardo and his friends saw it they knew exactly what they were going to carve in the festival. Naomi helped them carve and I stopped reading on the morning of the festival. I really hope her dad comes. It would be the perfect almost ending.

P.S. the picture is an example of the radishes they carve in the festival.

Pages 152-166

In the beginning of these chapters Naomi seems happy and hopeful, in the middle she seems worried, and in the end a little less hopeful than in the beggining. I will tell you what happened. In these pages Naomi and Gram are searching for Naomi's and Owen's dad, Santiago Zamora Leon. I can really tell that Naomi wants her dad more than anything else. I also can tell that Naomi really likes Mexico. The first place they search for a person who might know Santiago is the market, but they have know luck. This is the part where Naomi gets a little discouraged. Naomi was soo desperateto find her dad and she did the only thing she could think of. Look in the phone book. She knew Gram wouldn't approve and had Owen and Ruben ( Flora's son) help her and keep it secret. At this point I could tell she was a little more hopeful. I like these pages because they really show that Naomis not going to give up finding her dad. GOOD LUCK NAOMI!!!

Pages 137-151

Sorry it has been so long since I've posted. I've been busy! I guess you could say Naomi has been busy too. Since driving to Mexico Can take some time. This chapter isn't super eventful though. This is mainly what happens... they drive to Mexico, arrive in Mexico, go to Fabiola's sisters house (her sisters name is Flora), eat breakfeast, and "homeitize" Baby Beluga (that's their trailor). I think it would be cool to visit Mexico. I really hope that Naomi finds her dad. I would be so happy if she did!

Middle of the Book

Wow! I'm now at the middle of the book. So far I love this book and I really like bloging. I think that maybe I will start a regular blog just about my regular life. I'm really glad I'm reading this book because I thought it wouldn't be this good and that it would just be o.k. Turns out it is wonderful and I'm so glad my dad bought it for me. Thanks Daddy!!!

Pages 107-136

I'm Mad!
I think this post deserves extra big letters! This is the most suspensful, madening, and exciting chapter I have red so far. I read a lot and if I explain everything like i usually do than this post would be 10 pages long. I'll tell you the main parts. The main thing that first started it was that Skyla took Owen to an apointment (because he has a displaced body). She was really impatient and Naomi knew that she was drinking. When the doctors told Skyla that There was nothing they could do for Owen at the time she completely freaked. I could tell she was on the verge of being drunk. IT MAKES ME SOOOOO MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When they got back to the trailor Gram was at Fabiola's house. The phone rang and it was Clive saying they were going to Las Vegas Saturday. It was Thursday. She toldNaomi to pack but Naomi said no. Then...... Skyla slapped her on the face!!!!!! IT IS SOOOOOO MADENING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I officially hate Skyla!!!!! SOOO MUCH!!!!!! Well, Naomi and Owen escaped and ran to tell Gram. They hid in the shed and they heared Skla warening Gram that if Naomi wasn't packed and ready to leave on Saturday she was going to take them away forever. UGHH!!! When Naomi woke on Saturday morning She was on the road in her trailor on her way to Mexico to find her dad. See! Isn't that exciting! I really want to know what happens next. By the way......... I HATE SKYLA SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pages 91-106

Wow! This chapter was really exciting in a way. Clive is way different than I thought he would be, look wise. I thought he would be a tall laen sort of guy, but he is actually big, like a mountain, not fat but broad and thick. He's also covered in tatoos. Gram hosted a Thanksgiving feast (yummy) and her guests were Naomi & Owen, Skyla & Clive, Mrs. Maloney( a neighbor), Fabiola & Bernardo, and their dog Lulu. But due to Clives "issues" with dogs Lulu had to go home! ): I learned that Clive had a daughter, nameed Sapphire (Clive changed her name from Elizabeth to that), that lived in Las Vegeas. Skyla wanted to take Naomi to Las Vegas when Clive and her went. Naomi was soo scared she didn't want to leave Gram and Owen! Gram saved her by telling them that Naomi wasn't going. Later when Naomi looked in the bathroom she saw her soap carving. Clive had used it to wash up!(SO MEAN!!!) When Clive and Skla were leaving Naomi saw beer in the back seat. When Skla saw Naomi looking she said, " That's my business, not yours. If you know what's good for you, you'll keep youe mouth shut." OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. The picture is of Lulu showing Clive her mean face. ( Tee Hee) [:

Pages 75-90

This part of the book wasn't as eventful as the last ones. I just learned about what time it is in the setting of this book. It's is around thanksgiving. Guess what? Lemon Valley is already decorating for Christmas! Well, back to the book. In these pages Naomi is really upset about what happened with her mom. She decides to talk to Gram about the rehab and her dad and Gram said it was all true. Here is the real storie about what happened to her dad. During the storm he went to go move his boat to shore and ended up lost at sea for a week. He is still alive. That is way off from what I suspected! Anyways, Skla didn't show up for at least 3 nights after the conference, and when she finally showed up she seemed to not even remember the conference. She seemed all cheerful and had news she said that, her boyfriend, Clive was coming over for thanksgiving dinner. She also said that Clive got Owen a bike. He was sooo happy! I know I was happy when I got my first bike! When Naomi thanked Skyla in a very low voice Skla got mad and told her that she has to speak up and that when Clide was at the house that she would thank him loud and clear. Naomi was really nervous and she didn't even know if she would like Clide. The end of these pages was of Naomi and Gram setting up for thanksgiving. I can't wait to see what Clide looks like and if he's nice! ( I wish it could be Thanksgiving here. I love turkey! But the turkey says to eat ham!)

Pages 61-74

These pages are rather sad. ): This part is when Naomi and Owen's mom are going to come to their parent teacher conference. The morning of the conference Skyla Helps Naomi get ready. She had died her hair the same color as Naomis and was even wearing the same shirt, but when Naomi was getting her hair braided she noticed that her mom wasn't her usual cheerful self and that her pajamas smelt funny. Naomi chose not to care and went to school feeling really excited that her mom was coming and that she would be able to meet her new friend Blanca. When the time came for the conference her mom never showed up. Naomi and Owen were very dissapointed, and they had to wait for their Gram to pick them up. While she was waiting she heard the office ladies talking about her mom(here is the sad/surprising part). Here is what they said,

". . . called yesterday to give me some history on the mother. She's been in and out of rehab and halfway houses for years. Severe alcohol abuse and irrational behaviors that go along with it."

"Whatever happened to the father?"

"There's no contact. He and the mother are divorced. Gram said he wanted the children at one time, but the mom wouldn't allow it. He lives in Mexico."

So I guess I was wrong about that her dad died, but isn't it sad. I feel so bad for Naomi! I really want to know what happens next. I wonder why Skyla was a no show?

Pages 46-60 (;

Naomi is now figuring out how fun having a mom can be. Skla went shopping for Naomi and got her a beautiful t-shirt and a new pair of jeans . Which is a big thing for Naomi because her Gram always made her clothes. skla also did Naomi's hair; into a beautiful french braid which is way different than her usual tangly mess. Naomi seems so happy and I feel so happy for her too. When she went to shcool the next day she made freinds with a new girl named Blanca Paloma( Hey Paloma your famous!).It was naomis first real friend and she felt like a shiny penny. she had her mother to thank. I think it is sooo wonderful that Naomi has her mom. I predict that in the end her mom might stay forever and maybe Naomi will find her dad.

The picture at the top is of Naomi, Grams, and Owens trailor home.

Pages 31-45 (:

Now Gram is getting worried about what could happen since Skla came back. Could she possibly want to take her children back? Is she still the same as she was seven years ago? When Fabiola comes over she can tell that Gram is really stressed. They decide to go talk to Bernardo, Fabiola's husband. They have a short talk, and then go home. While Naomi is in bed she tries to remember her mom, she can only remember her dad. It was a long time ago in a terrible storm that her dad disapeared. The book doesn't say if he died or not, but that is what I suspect.I would be devestated if my dad died! In the morning Naomi and Owen see there mom sleeping on the couch of their trailer then go outside. Gram, who was gardening her flowers, tells them that Skyla only wants to visit them and to get to know them better. Naomi is worried but tries to think of the best.

Saturday, May 8, 2010

Pages 16-30

Now I know who was at the door. You would never believe it... it was Naomi's and Owen's mom! They haven't seen there mom in seven years. Gram was super surprised ( I was to!), and Owen and Naomi didn't even remember her. Although Naomi knew she faintly remembered her voice. There mom has reddish hair, the same color lipstick, and her name was Terri, but now she changed her name to Skyla. When Gram tells the kids to go to there rooms because she needs to talk to there mother, Naomi decides to eavesdrop on their conversation. Skyla says that her new boyfreind is a tatoo artist and rented a small studio in Lemon Valley. So, she neeeded a place to stay and figured that Gram could let her stay. I didn't expecta twist in the story this early on, but I guess that means the story is going to get even better! Can't wait to read more!

Thursday, May 6, 2010

Pages 1-15

Wow! I'm really starting to like this book and I only read about a chapter. Naomi seems like a very fun and interesting character. There are also more characters; Gram, Naomi's great grandma who takes care of her, and her brother, Owen. These are the three main characters that I have learned about so far. Naomi and her family live in the Avocado Acres Trailer Rancho in Lemon Tree, California. I think it sounds like a peaceful place to live. Also, there are some other characters in the story like Fabiola, who is Grams best friend that comes over to their trailer every night. At the end of the pages I read Naomi was doing one of her favorite things... carving soap, when she heard a knock at the door and a voice saying," Anyone home?" and it wasn't Fabiola. I wonder who it was?

Before I Read

I go into this book thinking what it could possibly be about. To me it seems very interesting. As always I read the back of the book and it seems even more interesting.

"Things I am good at"

1) Soap carving, 2) Worrying, and 3) Making Lists

That's not even all of it! But if I write all of it it would be almost a page long! I can't wait untill I start reading this book!
